THRONE OF AUSTRIA
RETURN OF THE HAPSBURGS LITTLE ENTENTE PERTURBED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON. July 4. Mr Vernon Bartlett, in the ‘ News Chronicle,’ states that Yugoslavia has asked France for precise assurances regarding the extent of French help that could be expected if Austria restored the Hapsburgs. The Vienna correspondent of ‘ The Times ’ says that the real reason that Dr Schuschnigg did not attend Geneva was that he did not wish to expose himself to crossfire questions regarding the Monarchist restoration. The Little Entente is most worried over the increasing activity of, the Monarchists, and attaches importance to the refurnishing of the Imperial Palace and the recent statement by Archduke Otto that it is high time for decisive action, and that he is at any moment ready to return to his homeland. At present, however, Austria is negotiating with everybody except. Archduke Otto. The. semi-official Prager Press warns Austria that the return of the Hapsburgs would plunge Central Europe into chaos. Neither restoration nor Austro-German union is a possible proposition.
