STORMY-HEAVY SHOWERS The following weather forecast wa» issued at noon by the Meteorological • Office, Wellington, covering the »onthern districts—-Dunedin, Port Chalmen, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—< A very intense and extensive westerly depression covers the New Zealand area,- and is moving eastward. Pressure is high over Eastern Australia, Forecast: South-west to southerly gales to strong gales. Weather stormy, with passing heavy showers, hail iu places,' and snow on the ranges. Temperatures becoming very cold; seal nigh. SUNNY WEEK-END. Two fine and sunny days were experienced in Dunedin on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday night was j fine, with cool temperatures prevalent, while last night rain commenced to fall at 7.30. Later in the evening it became heavier, and, accompanied by a strong wind, fell steadily until early this morning. Despite the rains, the morning broke fine and cool, with a light north-north-westerly wind. Prospects early, however, were not encouraging. Respective maximum and minimum temperatures for 24 hours on ' Saturday and Sunday were 59deg and 58-sdeg, and 39.5 deg and 37deg, with to-day’s corresponding readings at 12.10 p.m. at 46deg and 42.5 deg. The rainfall on Sunday was .19in. The barometer at noon was rising at '28.51 inches. At this period indications were for a fine but dull afternoon. Snow; has fallen heavily in Central Otago.
