AN EXCITING FINISH
The men’s doubles _ final had some bearing on the selection of the Davis Cup pair. Hare and Wildo spiritedly took the second set. in which. Wilde’s fast service and Haro’s extensive reach and safety at the net baffled the seniors, who were ragged by comparison with the youngsters’ zestful attack. Tuckey especially was below normal form. Hare smashed with startling power. When Hughes and Tuckey comfortably took the fourth set greater experience seemed to bo on top, but Hare and Wilde returned gamely to the attack, leading 4-3 in the final. Wilde’s new-found equanimity and temperament greatly improved bis game. They staved off two match points in an exciting finish after an astonishingly good performance in their first appearance in a match of such importance. Tho strain of tho closing moments told on Hare, who is only 20. DAVIS GUP TEAM Perry, Austin, Hughes, and Tuckey have been chosen to represent Britain in tho challenge round of the Davis Cup.
