INTERISLAND EXPRESS. The interisland express steamer Maori arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.55 a.in. yesterday. MOVEMENTS, —Coastal.— Gale, which arrived on Saturday morning, was expected to sail this afternoon for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Pauo sailed yesterday morning for Bluff. Breeze is due on Wednesday from Wellington. She will sail the same day for Wellington, Pic-ton, and Wanganui via ports. Waimarino has been delayed by rain at Bh':ff, and is now due here on Wednesday. She will Rail the same day for Timarn, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. _ Wanui is expected to-morrow from Bluff to load for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne via ports. During the we.ek ended May 8 1,041 vessels, representing 1,171,269 net register tons, used the port of London. Of these 577 vessels (968,830 net register tons) wore to and from Empire and foreign ports and 464 vessels (202,439 not register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included six meat cargoes, three from Australia, two -from New Zealand, and one from South America, comprising 367,000 carcasses of lamb and mutton, 56,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits, and sundries. ' JAPANESE SHIPBUILDING BOOM. Five cargo vessels were launched within a fortnight in Japan recently. They were the Osaka Maru, of 1,470 tone gross, building by the Kasado Dock Company for the Kobe Sanbashi K. Kaisha; the motor ship Funagawa Maru No. 2, of 1,000 tons gross, building by the Mitsubishi Jokogyo K,K., Yokohama, for the Nakagawa Kisen K.K.; the Hokuyo Maru, of 4,200 tons gross, building by Uraga Dock Company Ltd. for tho Kita Nippon K.K. Kaisha; the Saipan Maru, 5,400 tons gross, building by the Mitsubishi Zosen Kaisha, Nagasaki, for the Nippon Yuseu Kaisha; and tho Canberra Maru, of 6,300 tons, building by the Mitsui Bussail Kaisha, Tama, for the Osaka Shoseu Kaisha. According to a Japanese contemporary, all the leading Japanese yards aro fully occupied with naval and merchant contracts, some of them actually having to refuse orders. The following arc among the merchant ships now under construction and expected to be completed in 1930; Mitsui shipyards: One 8.000-ton turbine steamer for the Kyoritsu Kisen Kaisha, one 7.500- cargo motor ship for the 0.5. Mitsubishi shipyards; One 8,750-ton turbine steamer for the Kinkai Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, one 6.500- and two 10,100-ton turbine steamers for the Nippon Yuseu Kaisha, one 7,500-ton steamer for the Dairen Kisen Kaisha, and one 3,300-ton motor ship for the Übo Cement Company. Kawasaki shipyards: One 13,500-ton tanker for the Yamashita Kisen Kabushiki Kaisha. Harima shipyards: Two 9.100-tnu motor ships for the Kokusai Kisen Kabushiki Kaisha and one 7,500ton steamer for the Dairen Kisen Kaisha. Uraga shipyard: A 4,000-ton cargo steamer for tho Sctsuyo Kisen Kaisha. Yokohama dockyard (now Mitsubishi): Two 6,500-ton motor ships for tho Kinkai Yuseu Kaisha. Among the shipping companies who propose to build further tonnage in the near future are tho Osaka Shosen Kaisha, the Naigai K.K. Kaihsa, and the Daido Kaiun K. Kaisha. while it is reported that the N.Y.K. are to build new vessels for their European services and the Kawasaki K.K. Kaisha aro contemplating the construction of 12 16-knot motor ships for their New York line.
