BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

LARGE YARDING OF FAT CATTLE Mostly ordinary quality cattle were shown in the large yarding sent in for the sale at Burnside to-day, and in consequence values all round dropped in comparison with late prices. On the other hand, the stores met with a satisfactory sale, vealers experiencing an appreciable rise in values The yarding of fat cattle was; a big one: there being 388 head forward. The quality throughout was poor, only an odd truck or two of prime stuff being included in the penning. The market for prime quality cattle was down 15s a head compared with the sale held a fortnight ago, while medium and light sorts dropped about 20s a head. A truck of bullocks from Mr Herlihy, Patearoa, sold from £l3 to £ls 2s 6d, the latter being the highest price of the sale. Messrs Dempster Bros.’ truck from Goodwood brought up to £l4 12s 6d, while a consignment from Mr J. A. Gow, Woodside, realised £l4 7s 6d. A truck of cows and heifers from the estate of the late J. W. Blair sold from £9 17s 6d to £ll 7s 6d.

This week’s lambs _ were classed as hoggets, and were included in the yarding of fat sheep, the sale of which had not started at the time of going to press.
