BADMINTON
J. F. DEVLIN’S VISIT Badminton-is not a new same. In fact, it is 70 years old and has been played in Dunedin for the last nine years, but it is only in the last two or three years that it has become one of the most popular winter _ indoor sports. There are eight clubs m Dunedin with a membership of over 500. So popular has the game of badminton become in New Zealand that the New
Zealand Badminton Federation mad# arrangements for a visit to the Dominion of the famous badminton player. J. F. Devlin, six times champion of All England and now a professional in Canada. Mr Devlin, with some of Nevr Zealand’s best players who are touring with him, will make his first appearance in exhibition games in _ th* Y.M.C.A. gymnasium to-morrow night. Badminton is an exciting game to watch, even for non-players, as it is several times faster than tennis. It is by no means easy for local players who have been in the game for a number of years to change their style in a day, but they can certainly improve their game and the quality of their play % hundredfold by following the main prill* ciples demonstrated by Devlin. New. players will have the advantage of a store of advice and hits to work on from the start. The box plans are 11017 open at the Otago Sport Depot.
