ANZAC STAMPS
EXHIBITION AND COMMUNITY SING News was received yesterday by the secretary of the Dunedin Return Soldiers Association (Mr 0. L. Fcreus), that the Government had consented to lend the Government stamp collection for the philatelic exhibition to be held in Dunedin next month. Originally it was intended that the display should bo for two days*, on June 9 and 10, but as a result of the ready response shown by philatelists, and the support promised, the organisers have decided to keep the exhibition open for a third day. Letters have been received from as far as Auckland, offering exhibits, many of which have been accepted. The display will be held in the Returned Soldiers’ Association social hall. The committee is grateful to Messrs Hogg and Co. for the loan of wood, and Messrs Smith and Smith for glass, to be used in making show-cases to house the exhibits. Arrangements are practically comI tor the first Returned Soldiers’ Association community sing of the year, which will be held in the Town Hall on Tuesday night. A feature of the sing will be a special tableau, comprising representatives of all the units that fought on Gallipoli. The local units are supplying men for the tableau, and regiments represented will be the Otago Mounted Rides, the New Zealand Field Artillery, the Otago Battalion, the R.N.V.R., and the mercantile marine, all of whom actually fought on Gallipoli. As yet no representative has been found of the 29th Division, and any man who served in this division is requested to report to Mr Ferens as soon as possible.
There is also to bo a twenty-first anniversary cake, now on view in a local confectioner’s window, pieces of which will be sold at sixpence each, while the Anzao stamps will also be on sale during the evening. An interesting and comprehensive programme has been arranged, and Mr Arthur Macdonald will be the leader. As well as many interesting items, musical numbers will be presented by the Band of the First Otago Regiment, the Trumpet and Bugle Band of the Otago Regiment, the Returned Soldiers’ Association Choir, while Dr V. Jfi. Galway will be at the organ.
