GEORGE RAFT AND JOAH BENNETT GO-STAR ‘ She Couldn’t Take It,’ Columbia's bid for cinematic honours in the “ ten best films of the year ” competition, will open at the Empire on Friday. This popular film, co-starring George Raft and Joan Bennett, has been adjudged “ one of the most entertaining films of the new season,” a worthy companion piece to Columbia’s two memorable recent hits, ‘lt Happened One Night,’ and ‘ She Married Her Boss.’ Raft is seen as the reformed beer baron, Ricardi. whose major probr lem in his pledged duty to look after the “ mad Van Dykes ” is to reform the spitfire daughter, Carol, played by Joan Bennett,
