POLICE COURT
TUESDAY, JANUARY 28. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 12s 6d, in default 24 hours’ imprisbnment. PROBATION GRANTED. William James Bradley appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing £2 14s in money, the property of Patrick Collins. Mr A. G. Neill appeared for accused. . , “ You have now been in custody for several days, and you will realise what will happen to you if you wander from the straight path,” said the magistrate. “In view of your, youth and the reports before me, you will be admitted to probation for two years, a special condition being that your occupation is approved by the probation officer.” , , Mr Neill mentioned that accused had a position in the country to go to immediately. . , . , The Magistrate: That is obviously the place for him to go, as he is reported to be a good worker in the country. _______
