MEMORIAL PLAQUE

PRESENTED TO NEW SLOOP [Pbr United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 27. A plaque hearing the coat of arms of the City of Wellington was presented to the sloop H.M.S. Wellington by the mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) and councillors to-day. Just as they wanted to commemorate in some tangible form the fact that the ship had been named after the city of Wellington, said the Mayor, the city itself was proud that a vessel of the Royal Navy had been named after it. He felt sure members of the ship’s company would also feci proud that their ship was named after the city. Wellington, from the founding of the city to the present day, had always entertained feelings of affection and keen respect for the Royal Navy, and he'hoped that the career of H.M.S. Wellington and all the members of the sihp’s company would be a happy and prosperous one. Commander J. B. Hall suitably replied.
