OLD LANDMARK DESTROYED
TE AUTE HOTEL GUTTED BY FIRE [Pek United Press Association.} HASTINGS, January 27. The Te Ante Hotel, a familiar re« minder of the earlv coaching days, wa» totally destroyed by lire at 3 o’clock yesterday morning. The greater part of the building was wooden and, very old, and nothing could be done _to save it. By 5 o’clock only the chimneys remained standing. The hotel was occupied by its owner, Mr Charles Hart, his wife and son, and a .small staff. There were .no boarders. The occupants had to make a hurried escape and saved none of their personal effects. . ■ The Waipawa notice are investigating the cause of the outbreak, which is at nresent unknown. No insurances are available.
