SURF LIFE-SAVING
KEEK COMPETITION AT ORETI
ST. CLAIR TEAMS SUCCESSFUL
An interesting exhibition of lifesaving and surf work was staged at the Oreti beach over the week-end, when interclub competitions were contested between the St. Clair and Oreti LifeSaving Clubs. Beautiful weather prevailed, and the events were followed with keen interest by a large crowd of spectators. , , , , Three teams from each club took part and the competition was keen in the three events decided. The judges were Messrs Alexander and A. J. Kingsland, of Invercargill, who commended the members of the teams on the high standard of work displayed. Conditions were by no means ideal, as there was a fairly high sea running, and as a result competitors experienced much difficulty in sighting the buoys. On account of the mooring buoys drifting the Otago six-men championship was postponed until a later date. A spectacular march past was staged by the six teams, and the neat appearance of the St. Clair teams m their new uniforms created much favourable comment. Exhibitions of life-saving were given by all six teams, the judges awarding the places without taking into consideration times in the water. The judo-es stated that the winning team in this"event, St. Clair No. 2, gave a very fine performance. The St. Clair members were hospitably entertained by the Oreti Club, an enjoyable social- evening being held on Saturday night. Results: — FOUR-MEN CHAMPIONSHIP. St. Clair No. 1 (H. D.
