Captain Col. M'Donald left this morning for Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. G. Duthie, after spending a short holiday in Dunedin,; left this morning for Wellington. Mr D. Mitchell, dredge master of tho Okarito dredge, went north this morning en route for the West Coast. Mr Jack Lewis, after spending holi-t days at his home in Dunedin, left this morning for Wellington. At the Primary Examination for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, held in December, 228 candidates presented themselves, of whom 70 were approved. Among the successful candidates were M. T. Greig, M. 8., Ch.B., New Zealand (Otago and Middlesex), K. I. Nissen, M. 8., Ch.B., New Zealand (Middlesex and University College), and E. L. Wilson, M. 8., Ch.B., New; Zealand (Otago University). News has been received that Mr H. W. Anthony Baron has been awarded a major scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge, gaining 90 per cent, in chemistry and 80 per cent, in zoology. He is the elder son of Dr Alfred JE. Barqn, of Hampstead, and is a grandson or the late Mr H. W. Baron, of Nevada, Dunedin. Dr Baron himself was born in Dunedin and was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School and . Otago University, finishing . his medical course at the London Hospital, and has been practising in Hampstead for nearly 30 years. Mr Anthony Baron has had a brilliant career at Oundle, in consequence ,of which the London County Council is awarding him an additional scholarship at Cambridge, and he has also been awarded the Oundle Scholarship. It is his intention to prosecute research work in. bio-chemistry. He is the nephew of Mr H. Baron, of Roslyn, and Mrs T, D. B. Paterson,' of Maori Hill.
It was announced at the Catholio Teachers’ Conference that the Rev.Brother M. M. O’Connor, rector’ of St. Kevin’s Christian Brothers’ College, Oainaru, has been transferred to taka charge of the Christian Brothers’ School at St., Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney. The latter school is one of the largest conducted by the Christian Brothers in Australia. Brother O’Connor was born in Ireland, coming to Australia 18 years ago. For a time ho was rector of the Christian Brothers’ School, Dunedin, and was appointed rector of St. Kevin’s four years ago.
