MARAMA ARRIVES

CALL AT MILFORD SOUND A fine-weather trip across the Tssj man aud a visit to Milford Sound under the best conditions were capped this morning by a delightful run up Otago Harbour for the passenger# aboard the Marama. “ The grandeur of Milford is equal to the magnificence of the Norwegian Fiords,” exclaimed one of the . many delighted passengers this morning in describing tho call to Milford Sound on Saturday evening. Every person on board was. most enthusiastic about; the spectacular beauty and grandeur of Milford, and several Australians considered that the scenery in the Sound fully repaid their visit to the Dominion. The general opinion was that Milford was one of the supreme attractions for tourists, and that the Tourist Depart* ment and 1 the Union Steam Ship Company were deserving of congratulations for the wide manner in which they were advertising it. Among the passengers who left the ship at Bluff were Mr and Mrs Frank Halstead, who were married recently in Melbourne. They are to make their home in Dunedin. Two prominent Australian business men, Colonel H. Copeley and Colonel W. Fowler* Brownsworth, also left the ship at Bluff to make a visit to the Lakes district, and they will, re-embark this evening for the continuation of the round trip. Mr C. H- Clibborn, secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, left the ship this morning and proceeded to Christchurch by train. He. is returning from a mission to Australia to improve the tourist trade to the South Island. Mrs James and Miss L. James, of Christchurch, are continuing the trip up the coast. They have been on a year’s visit to the Continent and England, during which Miss James was presented at court.

Three personalities well known to tho theatrical world are among the passengers—Miss Pat Nelson is returning from Australia on a visit to her parents in the North Island. She is accompanied s by another actress, Miss K.Mangan. Miss L. Miller, of the J. C. Williamson firm, is visiting New Zealand to form a ballet for the tour of the ‘ White Inn ’ Company.
