WEATHER FORECAST
RAIN DEVELOPING The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, covering the south* ern district; —Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— # An intense anti-cyclone is centred east of the North' Island, while a shallow, depression covers the Tasman Sea, Forecast: Moderate but increasing northerly winds. Weather cloudy to overcast, with rain developing. Seas rather rough. HOTTEST DAY TO DATE. To-day was the hottest day so far this season. . The thermometer had reached 76.1 deg by noon, having risen, from a morning minimum of 67.8 deg, whilj the previous best temperature wag that of 74deg, recorded on October 9. Last night was clear, and for a time chilly and windy. Curipusly, the early morning was threatening, with heavy clouds hiding the sun, but these dispersed, and at noon the blue sky was scarcely flecked. The heat of the sun was cooled by a refreshing northeasterly breeze, and the barometer was steady at SO.lin, considerably below the midday reading of 32in jester* day, when the. temperatures for "4 hours were a maximum of 69deg and a minimum of 52deg. Rain wa§ last recorded a week ago.
