PUBLIC LIBRARY DISPLAY

COLLECTION OF IRISH BOOKS The display of books arranged weekly in the lending room of the Public Library continues to be popular and well patronised by the public. The subjects chosen for display are varied, but an attempt is always made to arrange for some topic which is of current interest or importance. Following the display on Scotland was the special Carnegie centenary of November 20, which is replaced this week by an interesting collection of books descriptive of Ireland and its people. Lives of De Valera, Lord Carson, Sir Richard Steele, C. S. Parnell, T. P. O’Connor, and the O’Gorman Mahon — duellist, adventurer, politician—among cither famous Irishmen and books of descriptive travel, including ‘ Ireland in Ten Days ’ and ‘ The Charm of Ireland,’ by Stephen Gwynn; H. V. Morton’s ‘ In Search of Ireland ’ and 1 Sons of Sawdust With Paddy O’Flynn’s Circus,’ by Kdward Seago, are arranged on the stand.

Irish literature is well represented by works of G. B. Shaw. J. Synge, Lady Gregory, James Stephens, and James Joyce among many others. At present there are on loan in the reference room display cases two handcarved bog-oak jewel cases, a genuine blackthorn walking stick, and a silver tara brooch.
