An Auckland Press Association telegram states that as _ a sequel to .the Takapuna ,shop incident last night John Howard Kaye, aged 41, a miner, appeared before Mr MTvean this mornin0 * charged with stealing £1 6s, the property of Ernest Selwyn, and further with assaulting Selwyn. Kaye pleaded not guilty ito both charges, and was remanded on the application of the police to December 6. A previous message stated that an intruder who was surprised behind the counter of a shop at Takapuna, was overpowered by the occupier of the shop after a brief struggle, and was held until the police arrived. lh»‘ shopkeeper, Air E. Selwyn, a middle-, aged man, suffered no injury in the encounter, but he was considerably, shaken as the result.
