CANADA AND JAPAN NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING. v —— ifnas AMoeiation—By Telegraph—CupyricM OTTAWA, July 20. The Prime Minister (Mr B. B. Bennett) has announced that the application by the Japanese Government of SO per cent, surtax to certain Canadian imports, including lumber and wheat, would be considered a violation of the Anglo-Japanese Treaty of 1911 to which Canada became a. signatory in. 1913. Canada would reply with a 33 1-3 ad valorem surtax on Japanese goods. Further negotiations are in progress.
