COMBINED MASONIC BALL

BRILLIANT SUCCESS The Tovtn Hall presented a charming scene on Wednesday evening, when a ball was held under the auspices of the combined Masonic Lodges. Mr D. Tannock, who was responsible for the decorations, had evolved a very pretty scheme for the main hall with hanging baskets of ferns round .the gallery and masses of palms and spring flowers outlining .the stage, which was furnished as a cosy lounge. Here two large Masonic emblems worked out in glittering silver, against a background of deep blue, held pride of place. The Tom Katz Band, which provided the excellent music, was ensconced on a raised dais- at the side of the hall, very prettily arranged with a trellis of greenery and glittering with multi-coloured lights. A sumptuous supper was served in the Concert Chamber, where the tables were set with vases of flame-coloured poppies, toning charmingly with the colour scheme of the room. The dances were a happy mixture of old and new, and delightful to watch, as a number of spectators in the gallery could testify. , The committee responsible for the ball ? which will be long remembered for its light-hearted atmosphere and spontaneous gaiety, were Messrs F. J. Williams, D.G.M.S.C., G. Z. Lindley (president Masonic Hall Company Ltd), William Ripley (chairman), W. K. Cameron (secretary), A. J. Allan ftreasurer), W. Gilroy, D. Tannock, John Bews, S. Ripley, the latter wearing a distinguished gown of heavy black satin, cut on long lines, its only ornament a diamante clasp at _ the waistline at the back. With this she wore a coatee of wthite clipped fur, trimmed with ermine tails. The march was a very unusual one, and when completed it was found that the dancers had worked out the well-known Masonic emblem of the square and compass. During the evening three lucky spot dances were won by Miss M'Cormack, Mrs Levido, and Miss Violet Hislop, while the fire-side chair which went to the lucky programme was won- by Miss Wilson.
