—Vice-Regal.— ■ Calling at Dannevjrke on their tour of Southern Hawke’s Bay, the Gover-nor-General (Viscount Galway) and Viscountess Galway were accorded a civic reception in the Town Hall, which was crowded. An address of welcome on behalf of the borough hud the Dannevirke County was read by the mayor (Mr E. Gibbard), the Acting P.rime Minister (Sir Alfred Ransojn), who is the member for the district, supplementing the ; mayor’s remarks, and referring to the changes in the district since the advent of the first Danish settlers some 70 years ago. Lady Ransom, the mayoress, and members of the Borough and County Councils and their wives were on the platform. The China Inland Mission has accepted Dr Hallum Howie, formerly of Maori Hill, Dunedin, but lately of Auckland, and Mr Mellsop (lately preaching at a Baptist Church in Nelson) for service in China as foreign missionaries. Dr Howie arrives in Dunedin next week to attend meetings to be held in his ..mission’s interest.
