DRAINAGE WORK

PROVISION FOR SOOTH DUNEDIN RECOMMENDATIONS OF WORKS COMMITTEE A proposal for drainage work in South Dunedin to relieve the existing sewer in Cargill road is under consideration by the Works Committee of the Drainage Board, the estimated cost being £37,549. The committee has reported as follows; — The matter of making further provision for the disposal of foul sewage in the South Dunedin and Kaikorai areas has been further considered. The recent heavy rains indicated that, if at all possible, some forward move should now be made in the matter, and a report which has been submitted by the drainage engineer indicates that works immediately required are the laying of a new sewer along Macahdrew road, Surrey street, Caversham Valley road, and through the Caversham tunnel, to relieve the existing sewer in Cargill road. The total estimated cost of the work is £37,549. The board’s authorised loan of £250,000 has already been allocated for specific works to the extent of £200,000. The drainage engineer has, therefore, been instructed to submit a schedule of works proposed to bo undertaken out of the remaining balance of £50,000 (including the proposed outlay of £37,549) with a view, to application being made to the Loans Board for its approval at the earliest possible date.
