CHRISTCHURCH HARMONIC SOCIETY
This evening, in the Town Hall, music lovers will welcome a choir, the excellent work of which is recognised by music leaders all over New Zealand. Mr Victor Peters and the Christchurch Harmonic Society. have. earned the praise of all who are acquainted with conditions in the musical world at home. Over the last few seasons the choir has steadily increased its membership and supporters. Last year the conductor was enabled to spend over £IOO on new music alone; and this year the choir is adding some magnificent new works to its lists. Musical leaders in Dunedin, and the various musical organisations in the city, are combining to extend a warm hospitable welcome to these singers. Local musicians recognise in Mr Victor Peters a colleague whose work has_ brought honour to New Zealand’s musical reputation. Those who are privileged to bear the choir this evening will hear a selection of ihusic and a standard of choralism which would gladly be recognised by many Home choirs as the equal of their own. The programme will range over the work of Bach, Handel, Gustav Holst, Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Stanford, Hugh Roberton, and several others, Dunedin’s city organist is to co-operate with the visitors, and the St. Kilda Band (under Mr J. Dixon) will assist in giving a welcome.
