NEW JUDGE

MR PACE, S.M., LIKELY CHOICE WILL TAKE ARBITRATION COURT ' [FROM OdR PIELTAMEXTARV REPORTER.} WELLINGTON, April 2. It is confidently anticipated that Mr Edward Page, senior stipendiary magistrate at Wellington, will bo the new; judge of the Arbitration Court in succession to Mr Justice Frazer, who this morning attended the first meeting of the Executive Commission of Agriculture in his new capacity as deputychairman. At one stage there was a Kossibility of utilising the services of Ir Justice Blair, who has had experience of Arbitration Court duties, but owing to the shortage likely to occur in the Supreme Court judiciary through the resignation of Mr Justice Herdman, the Government had to decide to make an entirely fresh appointment, and Mr Pag© is regarded as outstandingly suitable to preside over the Arbitration Court.

He is one of the most experienced magistrates, having held the position since 1912, and during this period he has presided over a number of important investigations at the request of the Government.

An interesting feature of Mr Page’s career has been that his judgments on the Civil side have been so uniformly successful when tested by appeal to the Supreme Court, for he has a remarkable record in the number of his decisions' which have been sustained by the higher authority.
