It is believed that Golden Miller jarred a foreleg, which caused its refusal to jump. The Furlongs uupreccdeiitly won all the cups in connection with the National—namely, those for owners, trainers, and jockeys, and also flouted the superstition that a black horse was unlikely ever to win the Grand National. it is a coincidence that thirty-nine years ago Lieutenant Donald Campbell won the Grand National when a subaltern in the same regiment as Mr Frank Furlong. Reynoldstown won after a series of mishaps beginning at the first fence, when lie jumped on a fallen horse. Thereafter he several times interfered with-Thomond 11., once colliding with him in midair. Four were down at the first fence, including Southern Hero, who fell at the same place last year. Half the field, including Brienz and Really True, had fallen out at halfway. Tapinois and Castle Irwell well in the second circuit, and Reynoldstown and Thomoncl 11. took the lead at Beecher’s Brook inlthe second circuit. Thereafter they jumped most of the fences together. Blue Prince, half a mile from home, began to make up ground, and passed Tliomond 11., but his saddle slipped, causing a loss of ground. His jockey recovered brilliantly, and rode a determined finish, bir; Reynoldstown had greater stamina. Thomond 11. failed to stay.
