OTAGO CLUB A stroke competition was played on Balmacewen links on Saturday afternoon. The senior event was won by G. K. Field with a net score of 67, whilst D. G. Reid and AV. 1). ST. CLAIR CLUB An excellent entry was received for the annual championship of the St. Clair Golf Club, the first qualifying round of which was played on Saturday afternoon under favourable conditions. The course was in good order, although there was little or no run after the recent rains. The standard of play, however, was not affected to any great extent and some very good cards were returned. The official opening of the Bellcknowes Golf Club took place on Saturday afternoon under pleasant weather conditions, when about eighty-four members took part. The president (Mr C. Russell Smith), addressing those present, referred to several golfing maxims which ho hoped they would observe, and finally expressed the wish that they would have a very successful season. "Ho then declared the season officially open and drove the first ball. During the afternoon mixed Canadian bogey foursomes were played for the Huntley Shield, the winners being Miss B. Kinaston and Mr A. Lucas, who combined well to return a card showing a score of 8 up. Presenting the shield, Mr A. M’Millan complimented them both on their performance, and mentioned that Mr Lucas was also successful last year in this event with Miss Read as his partner. Other good scores were:—Mrs Hooper and Mr D. Gollan, Miss B. Orr and Mr E. Ellison, both with 4 up. Miss Thomas and Mr W. Wilson, Mrs MTherson and Mr L. Huntley, Miss M. M‘Mi]lan and Mr R.
