FALSE WAGES ENTRY
A SUBSTANTIAL FINE , [Per United Press Association,! WELLINGTON. March 29. For making a false entry in the wages and time book Rene Gerondis, proprietor of a Willis street cafe, was fined £ls by Mr E. Page, S.M., who said that the entry was a'wilfully false one setting at naught the whole purpose of the Statute. J. Georgeson, inspector of the Labour Department, said the defendant entered in the wages book a waitress as receiving 80s a week, whereas she was actually receiving only 16s Gd. Mr Stephenson, for Gerondis, said that under the provisions of the new award the girl, who was employed as a probationer, would have lost her position, but she persuaded Mrs Gerondis to keep her on at a smaller salary. Mr Georgeson said that collusion between workers and employers added to the difficulties of the inspectors.
