DAIRY FACTORY MANAGERS
ADDRESS BY DR lIERGUS An interesting afternoon was spent by the Otago Dairy Factory managers on Wednesday last. At 1 o’clock the managers assembled at the Government Grade Stores, when an inspection of butter and cheese was carried out. An adjournment was then made to the Medical School, where a very interesting address was delivered by Dr Hercus on bacteria as it effectedmilk and cream,' Plates were supplied by the Massey Agricultural College and Dr Hercus, and were displayed under a microscope. Seventeen slides were shown at the time in this manner, and the managers spent some time inspecting these and discussing them among themselves. The chairman (Mr J. J. Henry), in introducing -Dr Hercus, said they were under a debt of gratitude to the doctor for the great assistance he had given in making an afternoon’s study possible, and he was sure managers would appreciate the time and trouble Dr Hercus had tiken to prepare it. Ho also had to thank Mr W. Wight for the offer of a microscope, and Professor Ridditjancl Dr Whitehead, of Massey College, for their valuable assistance. It Was not often managers had the opportunity of viewing the bacteriological side of the industry, and they appreciated what had been done for theiij benefit in this direction. Dr Hercus, with the use of the slides and blackboard, gave a very interesting lecture, dnd at the conclusion was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The Department if Agriculture was represented by Mr G. Valentine (Wellington). Mr W.Grant (Christchurch). Mr D. Cunuingliim and Mr A. Blair (Dunedin).
