ANOTHER SPECIAL COMPETITION

Do you know any true animal stories ? If your pet, for example, has done anytihng unusually clever ? write to Big Brother Bill and tell him about it. A ' special prize of two shillings and sixi pence will be given for the best story, i This competition will close on April 13. Here is a true animal story given to Big Brother Bill, which will show what is meant.

CAN A CAT READ ?

% One morning a stray; cat came to our ", door. - We drove her aw.ajy hut m the evening there she was again, look- • ing so starved and unhappy that we gave her a saucer of milk and let her , sleep in the scullery. Then next day there came the question, “,What to do with her?” We couldn’t keep her, as we owned a fox I terrier, which strongly objected to cats, and neither had we the heart to : drive her away again. It was Saturday, so we amused ourselves by turning an orange box into a home for her. She watched with great interest while; Billy nailed a board over the v door on which he had painted “ Home > for Cats,” and then she settled for the night. Early next morning Billy and I wont to see how she had got on during the night, and to out amazement we found that we possessed two stray cats instead of one! T&ey both stayed with us until we ; found homes for them. Do you think that cats can read? .
