40 AND 80 METRE CONDITIONS

Static on 80 metres has been rather bad lately. 4G2 is on the air at last, and was heard on Saturday testing on telephony. On 40 metres conditions in the early mornings have been patchy. One morning in particular the band was practically dead. At nights it is generally the reverse, and to those not armed with a single signal superhet. the band seems very congested. ZL4CA is trying his luck on this band now. On Sunday 4GZ joined in the telephony QSO’s. 4GY hopes to try Heising modulation, but had the ill luck to blow his power transformer recently. 4CT hopes to use Heising modulation in the near future, using two 47’s in parallel us modulators. It will be interesting to see if they work decently; there was someone who tried two 2As’s and had very little success. 4CK and 4FO were heard on 80 metres on Sunday, too; DX on 40 metres must be finished for the season!
