PASTELS IN VOGUE
FOR YOUTHFUL WEARERS Pale shades as well as gold and silver are very much to the fore this season for lovely evening gowns, and among the colours most favoured are many shades of blue and pink. Turquoise blue and rather bright pinks have been used by the fashion designers abroad m combination _ with other colours, mainly black, white, or navy. Another point to be noticed particularly is that these colours are either extremely becoming and smart, or rather terrible, if they do not suit the wearer. They are. essentially youthful colours, lovely on debutantes or young matrons, but older women, unless they are the possessors of white hair and delicate skin, have to be wary of combining them with black or navy. For older wearers, quite bright blues and pink can be successfully worn if combined with more off shades, such as grey or beige, preferably in filmy materials. These neutral tones, always popular witli the older woman, form a lovely background for the flash of bright colour. - ■
