WAIHOLA LANDMARK
LAKE HOUSE DEMOLISHED In the course of a few days, an old landmark at Waihola will have disappeared completely. This is the Lake House which is being pulled down by the Dunedin Demolition Company. Work on its demolition commenced about three weeks ago and the whole of the place will be cleared within three or four days. Lake House Hotel was at one time a licensed house, and was conducted for many years by Captain Patterson, and later by his sons and daughters. The license was lost through a reduction in the number of licenses in the district in which the hotel was situated, and for a long time the place was carried on as a private hotel. The hotel used to possess a tea stall which was the rendezvous of travellers going south in the slow trains. Lake House used to be a popular resort for cyclists and holidaymakers in general.
