DIOMEDE ARRIVES
SHORT STAY IN DUNEDIN NO OFFICIAL ENGAGEMENTS After a particularly fast cruise down the coast from Akaroa, H.M.S. Diomede, with fifteen Canterbury ratings of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on board, berthed at Dunedin at 6.30 this morning. The cruiser will remain here till Monday. No official engagements arc listed during the Diomede’s stay. Unofficial calls were made .at 10 o’clock to-day on Captain Cosmo Graham by Harbour Board members, and at noon by the mayor (Rev. E. T. Cox), the town cleric (Mr 6. A. Lewin), and Crs J. J. Marlow and J. L. M'lndoe.
Following docking at Auckland, the cruiser left the northern port on February 6, calling in turn at Gisborne, Wellington, and Queen Charlotte Sound. Lyttelton was left on Monday morning for Akaroa, where live shell practice with •Gin ammunition was carried out yesterday afternoon, star shells being fired in the evening. The Canterbury reservists, together with two Wellington trainees, are to proceed to their respective centres •on Saturday morning. When the vessel leaves Dunedin her complement will he augmented by nineteen signal and wireless ratings of the local division of the R.N.V.R., who will disembark at Wellington on March 15. The Diomede sails for Stewart Island and the West Coast Sounds from this port, and is to arrive back in Auckland on April H. Captain Cosmo Graham has'with him the following officers;—Commander J. W. Bennett, Lieutenant D. Blacklaws, R.N.R.. Mr L. H. Magef (gunner), Mr J. R. F. W. Green (gunner), Mr O. S. T. Slope (warrant engineer), Mr J. Teague (warrant engineer), Mr J. L. Hambling (warrant shipwright), and Mr J. L. Rees (school master).
