Unprecedented performances were registered by two competitors at the Hawke’s Bay swimming championships yesterday and on Monday. R. Watkins (Hastings), who won the National Mile Championship at Auckland this month, captured five events—the 50, 100, 220, 440, and 880 yards, covering the last distance in 11mm 52 l-ssec, which was C 4-ssec ahead of his own previous record. Mavis Simmonds, of the Te Awa Club, Napier, won all the women’s freestyle events —the 50, 100, 220, and 440 yards—and also the 100 yards backstroke.
