SHOT THROUGH HEART

DEERSTALKING TRAGEDY Returning from a deerstaking trip in the hills at the head of Lake Kanieri about 9 o’clock on Saturday evening (states the Christchurch * Press ■ Hokitika correspondent), Jack Andrew's, aged twenty-two years, eldest son of Mr F. Andrews, of Kanieri, saw something moving in the bush at the foot of Mount Tuhua and fired. When he reached the spot at which he fired he found that he had shot his companion, William Webb, through the heart. Webb was dead when Andrews reached him.

The two men frequently used to go out shooting and stalking together on Mr Andrews’s farm at the lake, and they went out together and then separated, Webb going round in front of Andrews.

The body was brought into Hokitika later, and an inquest w r ill be held there. t Webb was twenty-four years of 'age, and a native of the Kanieri township, about seven miles from Hokitika. H« was employed with Andrews brothers, butchers, Hokitika.
