GLUHTA A WINS SOUTH OTAGO SHIELD The final for the South Otago A grade shield was played at Kaitangata on Saturday. The teams were Balclutha A and Kaitangata A, and much interest was taken in the game, there being a big crowd of spectators. The weather was glorious. Kaitangata batted first, and compiled 96, - Jolly being the only one to make a stand. His 52 included six 4’s and a 6. Smith (12) and Parker (10) Were the only others to reach double figures. Disaster overtook Kaitangata early in the game, the first wicket falling without a run being scored. Two runs were on when the second wicket fell, and three were down for 14. The next three wickets produced 66 runs, but the tail-enders were weak, and the remaining wickets fell for 16. Boddington bowled well to get five wickets for 43 runs; while Guest (two for 19) and Lennox (three for 18) also did their share with the ball. Balclutha replied with 119 for five wickets. The Kaitangata score was passed before the third wicket fell. Henderson and Boddington each contributed 37 before they retired. Gold made 16 and Guest 12. Jolly (two for 26) and Smith (one for 0) secured the three wickets. At the conclusion of the match the Kaitangata captain congratulated Balclutha on winning, and Mr Lennox replied. The following team has been selected to represent South Otago against Badcock’s Dunedin “Colts’’” team at Balclutha on Saturday:—Lennox (captain), Henderson, Boddington, Guest, Gold, Stewart, Swinton (Balclutha), Harper (Owaka), J. Kane (Milburn), Jolly and North (Kaitangata). Playing at Balclutha, the S.O.H.S. team defeated Milton B by 123 runs to 94 runs. For Milton Hood (14), Roberts (33), and Gibb (13) were the chief scorers. Bowling for School, Murray took three wickets for 16 runs. Green three for 25, Espie one for 23, and Jolly two for 11. Stewart (28), Plew (26), Espie (25), and Murray (12 not out) were the principal run-getters for School. Wilkinson took two wickets for 25 runs, while Marryatt, Gibb, Hood, Morris,' and Roberts took one each. _ The position in the B grade competition is that High School are leading Waihola by one point, and the winners will be decided on the 16th, when these two teams-meet.
