NEW ROAD BRIDGE AT BALCLUTHA.— Work on the new highway traffic bridge at Balclutha is rapidly nearing completion, and will be ready for use in two or three months. the new bridge which embraces many of the most advanced ideas in modern construction, is to replace a wooden structure which is fif ty-three years of age and is unsuitable for heavy traffic. The new bridge, winch has an overall length of more than 800 ft and a width of 38ft 7in, consists of six spans and is built throughout with reinforced concrete. The bridge is designed to resist heavy earthquakes, and has been constructed under the supervision of the Public Works Department, which has established a hold laboratory on the job to enable the work of the department's officials being done efficiently.
