LAWN TENNIS
PERRY RETURNS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, January 21. Except that he mentioned that he was glad to be back in New Zealand and that he was looking forward to the New Zealand championship tournament, F. J. Perry, the world tennis champion, had nothing to say about his movements when lie arrived in Auckland this afternoon from Sydney by the Monowai.
On professionalism, film contracts, and his future plans Perry was quietly but grimly silent to all questions. He gave the same answer; “ I am glad to be back in New Zealand, and I. am looking forward to an enjoyable trip.” Three well-known Victorian players —R. W. Ewin, A. A. Kay, and Miss Shirley Whittaker —arrived with Perry to take part in the national championships^ A popular figure at Stanley street seven years ago, L. G. Knott, who, with N. G. Sturt, won the New Zealand doubles title in, 1928, also arrived from Sydney to play with his old team mate in the doubles. . For several years he has been living in Australia, and, with his wife, has come to Auckland for a tennis holiday.
