PUSHED OFF PLATFORM
RAILWAY ACCIDENT AFTER DUKE'S FAREWELL WOMEN'S LEG MUTILATED [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH. January 21. Thousands of people at the Lyttelton railway station to-night waiting for trains after the departure of H.M.A.S. Australia were deeply shocked by an accident which occurred as the first train was pulling into the platform. Mrs Lillian Masquet, of 8 Wildberry street, Woolston, who was standing near the edge of the platform, was pushed by the crowd over tiie edge. She fell beneath the train, and one of the wheels came to rest over her thigh. The train was immediately broken, and the carriage was with difficulty jacked up. It was a quarter of an hour before Mrs Masquet could be extricated and removed to hospital by ambulance. She suffered a compound fracture of the left thigh and mutilation of the limb.
