Sir John Simon conferred with Herr Von Hoesch (German Ambassador), and simultaneously Sir Eric Phipps, (Ambassador at Berlin), visited Baron Von Neurath (German Minister for Foreign Affairs). Both interviews were in connection with an important debate in the House of Commons to-day on Mr Churchill’s amendment to the Address to the Throne drawing attention to the inadequacy of Imperial defences, particularly in the air. It is understood that Mr Baldwin will speak.' A communique issued in Berlin says Sir Eric Phipps communicated to Baron Von Neurath in the most friendly manner the contents of the statements which were being made in the House of Commons. It was at first rumoured that the Ambassador had handed a Note protesting against German rearmament. This was denied, but it is believed that this subject will be a feature of to-day’s debate. The ‘ Daily Telegraph’s ’ diplomatic correspondent says the Government feels obliged to record its disapproval of Germany’s disregard of her treaty ob- ’ ligations.
