SARAZEN'S BRILLIANT DISPLAY MELBOURNE, November 15. Tho gallery of more than 3,000 that followed the play in the open golf championship to-day was thrilled at Sarazen’s brilliant displays on the Metropolitan links. Sarazen went out in 34 and came home in 35. He would have done hotter going out but missed two putts. Kirkwood, who played steadily, went out in 37 and came homo with a brilliant 31. On the outward half he was bunkered four times. Shelley, the only New Zealand amateur, failed lamentably with 93. Shaw, playing steadily, came home well in 35. Other New Zealanders were: AYatt 78, Douglas 83, Lampie 81. One of the surprises of the tournament was the performance of Joe Ezar, an independent American professional, who came home in 34 and tied for second place with a fine 70. The best scores were;— Sarazen' (U.S.A.), 69. Cooper and Ezar (U.S.A.), 70. E. Naismith (Victoria) and Kirkwood (U.S.A.) 71. Thomson (U.S.A.), \ r . S. Richardson (N.S.AV.), and Diegel 72. L. Nettlefold (Tasmania), M. L. Kelly (N.S.AV.), K. Laffoon, G. Naismith (Victoria), and A. V. Rao (Victoria) 73. F. E. Headlam, H. W. Hattersley (N.S.AV.), Runyan, Shaw (New Zealand), AV. J.
