Dr T. R. Ritchie, Medical Officer of Health, who has been stationed at Dunedin for the past four years, has been transferred to Wellington, and Mr E.R. Webster, District Clerk in the Health Department for the past eight years, has been transferred to Auckland. Mr C. J. Payne was a passenger lor the north by the first express this morning en route to Australia. Mr R. Hudson left for Wellington by the first express this morning. Mr F. B. Adams left by the through express this morning, bound for Wellington to attend a sitting of the Court of Appeal. Mr D. St. George (Auckland), is visiting Dunedin for a few days. Mr and Mrs R. Walls left for the north by the first express this morning. At J.he suggestion of the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop), a conference of representatives of horticultural and scientific interests was held yesterday to consider the proposal to provide a memorial for the late Dr Leonard Cockayne. A committee was set up to investigate the proposals. Archbishop Redwood, metropolitan of New Zealand, looking hale and energetic, returned by the Wanganella last night after his customary winter visit to Queensland. His Grace, who was accompanied by Father D. Moore, was out and about on the ship despite .the indifferent weather during the voyage. Archbishop Redwood spent most of his time in Brisbane. He will leave Wellington in a few weeks’ time to taka part in the forthcoming National Eucharistic Congress of Australia to be held in Melbourne.

Mr F. W. Platts, stipendiary magistrate for the Thames district, was yesterday tendered a farewell on the last occasion on which he presided over the local court prior to his retirement at the end of the month. Tributes of esteem were paid by members of the local Bar, police officials, and justices of the peace. Mr E. J. Clendon, on behalf of the legal profession and the court staff, presented Mr Platts with a silver entree dish, and referred to his sterling service as a magistrate during the past eight years, and the harmonious relations which had existed between the Bench and the Bar. Mr J. H. Luxford, formerly chief judge in Samoa, will succeed Mr Platts. Mrs R. A. Green, Misses E. L. Todd and J. W. Todd (Christchurch), Mr Gv Mooclie (Lowburn Ferry), and Mr L.Landoas (Kokonga), are guests at the Grand Hotel.

Collins, the New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Canada, who is coming home on furlough, was tendered a farewell luncheon on Monday by a group of Canadian industrial executives.
