Francois Bornea, the last Corsican brigand at large, who has surrendered to police, is only 29 years of age. . tie joined the French navy when 18, states the Ajaccio correspondent of Ino Times.’ Subsequently he became a gendarme, and was appointed a dock policeman at Toulon in 1927. He was dismissed for misconduct a year latei, and opened a smithy in Corsica; Allying himself with brigands, lie blackmailed a local carrier till he drove him out of business, and in the course of time laid the whole district under tribute. In 1930 he shot a road-mender dead for not getting out of the way of his motor car.
