PINNED UNDER LOG. An inquest was held at Taumarunui before Mr A. S. Laird, coroner, concerning the death of Leonard Arthur Penny, aged thirty, a married man with a wife and family at Whangarei, who died as the result of injuries received at Owhango on Saturday.. Evidence was given that the deceased was assisting to load a log on to a truck and shortly after the log started to move the skid broke, with the result that the log crashed to the ground at one end, pinning the deceased by his thighs. Medical evidence was given that the deceased was suffering from, shock caused by a fracture of the pelvis, and he died shortly after his admission to the Taumarunui Hospital. The skid was made of dry totara, and broke at the augur hole near the edge. A verdict was returned that death was due to shock and internal haemorrhage.: BOY THROWN FROM CYCLE. Gordon M'Murray, aged fourteen years, and residing at 301 Main South road, was admitted to the Hospital last evening suffering from a. bruised left hip and shock. He was riding a bicycle along Princes street, and in attempting to dodge a motor car ho ran into the kerbing and was thrown heavily to the ground, TWO TOES SEVERED. Roy Nieper severed two of his toe* and fractured others when a boiler plate, which he was cutting at the Hillside Workshops, slipped and fell on hi* right foot. The injured man, who is single, resides at 69 David street, and was admitted to the Hospital at 4.33 p.m. yesterday.
