TIIK RAREST METAL. NEW YORK, September 10.— A Cleveland (Ohio) message states that the first isolation of proactinium,' the rarest ;metal, worth 1,000,000 dollars : per., mince, was announced by the American Chemical Society. The metal is silver in colour and radio active, and its rays, arc more penetrating than radium. GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. SYDNEY, September 11.—In the final of the Women’s Australian championship between ?I;ss Gaisford and Mrs Robinson, the former was one up at the ninth. They were all square at the eighteenth.
