RUGBY O.R.F.U. COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night, the president (Mr John Mitchell) being in the chair. The Secretary reported that the Maori team would arrive on Thursday. MR A. M'DONALD WELCOMED. The Chairman extended, a welcome to Mr A. M'Donald, an ex-member of the committee, now resident in Wellington. Mr M'Donald thanked the chairman, and said that after being away from Dunedin one realised what an excellent Management Committee Otago football possessed. He did not think they had a better Executive Committee in New Zealand. It displayed a fair and impartial spirit in everything connected with the game. WELLINGTON MANAGER'S CON- ' GRATULATIONS. . Major King, manage!* of the Wellington team, wrote thanking the union for its hospitality, and congratulating Otago on whining, thus maintaining an, unbeaten record on its home ground. The writer said that the forwards played magnificently, and paved the Way for a well-earned victory. Under the conditions both teams had played good football, and lie thought the better side had won.—Received. PERMISSION TO TRAVEL, The University B team, with Mr Strong as manager, whs granted permission to travel to Palmerston on Saturday to play an Eastern Districts team. Mr H. D. Morgan, lion, secretary of the committee of the Primary School Sports Association, made application for a schoolboys’ team to visit Balclutha on Saturday to play a South Otago side. The team, managed by Mr J. M. Briggs, would return to Dunedin on the same day.—Granted. FIFTH GRADE COMPETITION. The Chairman of the Flag Committee (Mr J. B. Wootton) said that the committee recommended that the fifth grade competition be closed, and that the Technical School team be declared the winners.—The recommendation was adopted, and it was decided to send a letter congratulating the successful team. THIRD GRADE COMPETITION. Mr Wootton reported that Pirates A had a substantial lead in the third grade competition, and the Flag Committee recommended that Alhambra play High School on Saturday for the position of runners-up. SOCCER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The Management Committee of the Otago Football Association met last night, Mr A. Sharp presiding. . PRESIDENT’S RESIGNATION. “ For some considerable time now I have felt that the office of president of, your association, which I have held for itbe past three seasons, does not fall in with my ideas of usefulness,” wrote Mr Ruddinian. “It is. therefore, n'ot with some regret, that I feel compelled •to pen my resignation. t desire to express my thanks for such courtesies as 1 have had extended to me during my term as president.” ' The chairman said all members would regret having the president’s letter before them. He had heard, on different occasions during the season that Mr Ruddinian was handing in his resignation, but he thought lie had succeeded in persuading the president to carry on till the end of the season. Mr llnddiman had hebn a very capable man in Soccer. Mr Sharp could not understand what was meant by Mr Ruddiman’s statement that the office ot president did not fall ,in with his ideas of usefulness. It was decided to accept the resignation and to write to Mr Ruddinian thanking him for his valued services to the association, and regretting that he had seen fit to resign. GENERAL. The secretary of the Thistle Club (Christchurch) wrote thanking the association for the entertainment provided for the team during its visit to Dunedin. The use of grounds was allotted as follows: —Boy Scouts, throe grounds at the Oval on September 22; Order ot Rcchabites, Gardens, on September 22 ; Order of Oddfellows, Logan Park No. 2, on September 15; Boys’ Brigade, Logan Park Nos. 1 and 2, on September 22.

MARISTS’ PROPOSED VISIT. The secretary of the Technical Old Boys’ Club forwarded a proposal from the Mnrists (Wellington) to visit Dunedin. . It was decided ■to offer Mansts a match against Technical on October 6, ground rent and other standing charges to be the first charge, after which the expenses of the visitors would be entertained.
