AN UNUSUALLY DRAMATIC FILM

STRAND'S COMING ATTRACTION ‘ The Countess of Monte Cristo,’ which commences on Friday at the Strand Theatre, gives that accomplished actress. Fay Wray, full scope for her talents. The star .appears as a motion picture girl, who makes a dramatic exit from the studio, and rides out of the set in which she has been playing the part of a countess to carry on the role in a fashionable betel. The surprising part of Fay Wray's acting is the way she manages to keep up the character of an innocent and honest girl whom fate alone has made an impostor. As a gallant, gentleman and notorious international thief who proves the friend and saviour of the maiden in distress, Paul Lukas is in his element. Throughout all her troubles the heroine's friend, Minii (Patsy Kelly) sticks closely to her in the character of her maid.

The suave and polished Paul Lukas is right at home in the Continental background. There is plenty of excitement in the story, as the heroine becomes involved in all sorts of embarrassing situations, and finally becomes implicated in the arrest of a notorious international criminal. The plot is worked out in a clover and intriguing manner, and there is not a dull moment in the picture.
