A MODERN GOLD RUSH
DEPICTED IN GRAND'S NEXT ATTRAGTIQN 1 Wild Gold,’ which, together with another full-length picture, ‘ Handy Andy,’ commences at the Grand Theatre on Wednesday, is a story that doesn’t have to delve back into the past to find colourful adventure, glorious romance, rapid-fire action and a spectacular atmosphere. It has the fascination, the drama and humour of the days of ’49. But this 1934 rush for gold, inspired by the almost doubled value of the precious metal resulting from the President’s arbitrary fixing of gold’s monetary value, makes it as new as to-day’s news. ■ The plot revolves around the reawakening of an old ghost mining town, a number of which are to be found in the western areas of the United States. A new gold strike by an old prospector causes the magic cry of “gold!” to echo through the west and the sleeping town is soon once more.a thriving scene of activity, the goal of a motley, throng of humanity, drawn by the hope of sudden riches, among them John
Boles, Claire Trevor, Harry Green and his troupe of show girls. l , Thus, there is all the glamour ami excitement, drama, and human comedy of the roaring ’forties, happening' today, in a setting that is enjoying its seconds incarnation as a scene of sin, suffering, violence, tragedy, , comedy, romance, and rapid-fire action?
