PIGEON FLYING
The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club opened the bird season with a flock race from Timaru on Saturday. Record entries were received for this event, 142 birds from twenty-one lofts taking part. Liberated by the stationmaster at 11.24 a.m., in fine weather with a light easterly breeze, the birds set off for home in good style. Unfortunately at the home end there was a bad wind from the south-west, with rain and poor visibility, making flying conditions difficult. Returns were good, only a few empty perches being reported. The winning bird timed in at 2.26 p.m.. flying the 109 miles in 3h Ifmin. Tlie first five places in the race are (velocities given in yards per minute) ;
