KIN&SBRD SMITH'S FLIGHT BREAKS OWN RECORD Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, September 9. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, flying the Lady Southern Cross, left at 6.9 a.m. for Perth, and reached there at 4.31 p.m. The actual flying time was lOh 21Jmin. The previous record was about 22 hours, DELIGHTED WITH MACHINE. PERTH, September 9. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s time heats his own record of 22 hours, accomplished in the Southern Cross in 1928. This is the first non-stop flight across Australia, a distance or 1,900 miles. Sir Charles said he experienced head winds nearly the whole, distance. “ This plane of , ours is hot stuff and if all goes well I think we shall just pull off that Centenary Race.” He hopes to make even better time on the return trip to Melbourne to-morrow.
