OTAGO HUNT CLUB

ANNUAL POINT-TO-POINT RACES After two postponements the Otago Hunt Club held its annual Point-to-point races on Saturday afternoon on the properties of Messrs D. Lcishman, A. P. Gibson, and D. Connor which were kindly placed at the club’s disposal. The weather was wet and cold, but did not prevent quite a good attendance of the public. Tho course was a severe test, for hunters, the - fences being much bigger than has been the case for many years, and falls were numerous. In the second race all tho horses were riderless at one stage. After some delay in starting the first race, the events were got off promptly. Results: —

LIGHT-WEIGHT POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE, first prize presented by Mr J. M. Samson; second by Mr J. B. Hislop. Minimum weight list 71b. About l|m. Mr W. Hastic’s ch g RED SHADOW 4yrs (Mr B. Hastie) 1 Mr Jas. Mitchell’s br g Sunny Jim, syrs (Mr J. Souter) 2 Blackthorne (Mr T. White) and Palamar (Mr J. Dick) also started. Won easily by fifteen lengths. Blackthorne baulked and Palamar fell.

OPEN POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE. First prize presented by Mr B. S. Irwin, second by Mr J. S. M'Kay’s pupils. Minimum weight list 71b. About 2m. Messrs Duff and M'Kay’s ch g ZAMBOA, aged (Mr J. Richards) 1 Mr T. S. Edmond’s ch g Te Maui, aged (Mr A. J. Souter) 2 Broadfield (Mr B. Hastie), Scandal (Mr J. Dick), and Motukarara (Mr L. Wylie) also started. Won by quarter of a mile, after falling four fences from home. All tho others also fell at different stages of the race.

HEAVY-WEIGHT POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE. First prize presented by Mr P. M. Law; second by Mr R. C. B. Greensladc. Minimum weight 12st 71b. About 2m. Mr W. Hastie’s b g RAINBOW, aged (Mr B. Hastie) ... 1 Mr J. E. Brunton’s b m Heather Bloom, aged (Owner) ... ... . ... 2 Mr J. S. M'Kay’s ch m Mascot, aged (Mr F. J. Bradley), ... ... . 3 Kiwi (Mr Zambouka) also started. Won by ten lengths; a furlong between second and third. Kiwi fell.

FLAT RACE; First prize presented by Mr R. M. Gleenslacle, second by Mr A. D. Edgar. Minimum weight, list 71b. About lim. Mr J. Dick’s br g PALOMAR, 6yrs (Owner) ... ... 1 Mr W. Wood’s b m Lucky Lady, aged (Owner) ...‘ ... ... ... ... 2 Miss E. Greenslade’s b g Dingo, aged (Mr R. Greenslade) ... ... 3 Johnnie Walker (Mr F. J. Bradley) and Troubador (owner) also started. Won by ten lengths, fifteen lengths between second and third.
